Instalco wins assignment at University of Gothenburg

The Instalco subsidiary, Elektro-Centralen AB, has been contracted for the electrical and telecom installations in conjunction with renovation and new construction work at the Artistic Faculty, University of Gothenburg. It is a partnering project together with Akademiska Hus and Skanska, with an order value for Instalco of approximately SEK 190 million.

Renovation and new construction are currently underway for the premises that will house the Artistic Faculty at University of Gothenburg. The construction project aims to bring together all art education at the university in one location. Students, researchers and educators from all artistic disciplines will be co-located in the new buildings.

“There is a strong focus on sustainability and reuse across all aspects of the project. Akademiska Hus has set ambitious climate targets for the project, and we will therefore be reusing as much of the existing material as possible. We will also be refurbishing lightning fixtures on site. It is completely aligned with Elektro-Centralen's new goals and sustainability roadmap for 2030,” says Joakim Jörenius at Elektro-Centralen.

The new-build portion of the project includes the building structure at Götaplatsen and an elongated structural core along Johannebergsgatan. The total area of the new building structures will be approximately 35,000 square metres. At the same time, the existing building Artisten – originally built in the 1990s – will undergo renovation. The renovation covers approximately 11,000 square metres.

The aim is to achieve Miljöbyggnad certification at Gold level for the new-build portion of the project, and Silver level for the renovation. Ongoing efforts are also being made to evaluate material choices, with final procurement decisions based on climate impact.

The project is underway and will be completed in stages, with final completion planned for 2028.
