Lysteknikk chosen as contractor for electrical installations at the New Aker Hospital

The Instalco subsidiary Lysteknikk Elektroentreprenør AS has signed an agreement with Helse Sør-Øst RHF regarding the electrical work for the construction of the New Aker Hospital in Oslo. The assignment involves both design and installation. The order value for Instalco is approximately NOK 440 million.

At Aker in Oslo, the New Aker Hospital is now being built, which will form an important part of Oslo University Hospital. The project has a gross area of approximately 198,000 sq. m, of which 175,000 sq.m. will be new construction and 23,000 sq. m. will be redesign of existing building stock. The hospital will be built in stages and is scheduled for completion at the same time as the expansion of the New National Hospital in Oslo. Both hospitals are expected to be ready to receive patients in late 2031.

“We are proud to be involved in and contribute to this socially important project, while fully recognising the responsibility it entails. We have extensive experience with similar projects and an organisation capable of delivering high quality and reliable execution”, says Øyvind Udnæs Faye, Project Manager and interim CEO at Lysteknikk.

Lysteknikk is responsible for the design and installation of electrical systems in buildings totalling 86,000 sq.m. The assignment is a technical turnkey contract that includes planning, engineering, design, delivery, testing, commissioning and documentation of a complete electrical system. The delivery also includes fire alarms, warning systems and emergency lighting.

The New Aker Hospital will be one of the largest construction projects in Norway this decade. The hospital will house a modern emergency department and wards for mental and physical care.

Planning and design are set to commence in November 2025, with construction due to begin in August 2026. The installation works will continue until the end of 2028, followed by testing and commissioning leading up to completion in the summer of 2031.

“It’s a privilege to be involved in strengthening and developing healthcare services for the people in the Oslo region. This is one of the most advanced electrical installation projects in Norway’s hospital system, with exceptionally high standards for medical installations. In the tendering process, the customer placed particular emphasis on understanding of the assignment, system expertise, and quality assurance. Lysteknikk achieved the highest score in the overall assessment,” says Roger Aksnes, Head of Instalco Norway.
