Instalco grows stronger in Norrbotten

Instalco is acquiring SMT Norrbotten AB and thus strengthening its offering in the industrial area. The company offers manufacture and repair of steel structures, assembly and industrial service. SMT has 17 employees and annual sales of approximately SEK 40 million.

With its head office in Luleå, SMT primarily serves customers in Norrbotten and Västerbotten working in the mining, steel and paper industry. Its other main customers are in the shipping industry, municipalities and county councils.

“This is a very strategic acquisition for us, since SMT is active where we have wanted to establish a strong presence for quite some time. The region along the northern coast of Sweden is growing and there are plans for major investments in the industrial area during the years ahead. SMT is an excellent fit with our industrial group,” says Johan Larsson, Head of Division for Instalco North.

One of SMT's speciality areas is welding of rails, repair and modification of buckets and equipment for excavators and heavy vehicles. Examples of some of its customers are Smurfit Kappa, SSAB, LKAB, Skanska and Vattenfall.

“We’re looking forward to joining Instalco and helping it grow in the industrial area and expand in northern Sweden. It also offers of opportunities for expanding our business and offering,” says Janne Palo, CEO of SMT.

Instalco will acquire 100 percent of the shares in SMT Norrbotten AB as of 28 March 2023.
